The Dukes of Hazzard (the TV show, that ran from 1979 to 1985) was based on a 1975 film titled, Moonrunners. Moonrunners featured a Plymouth stock car named Traveler (named after General Lee's horse). When it was turned into the Dukes TV show, Traveler was turned into "The General Lee," a 1969 Dodge Charger.
But you have to ask yourself . . . since the late 70's were a time when people still remembered the 1973 oil embargo, and the resulting lines at the gas pumps . . . wouldn't it have made more sense for "The General Lee" to be a microcar?
